Iris Private Label

Iris Private Label

Building a brand, and a Shopify store where customers design their own product before they buy it.

Iris Private Label manufactures white-label skincare, hair and body care products for businesses who put their own brand on it: salons, spas, boutiques and online sellers. We started with the Iris brand itself, creating its logo and identity, then built the store that sells on it. And the store has to do more than list products. It has to let a customer brand one. We built Iris a custom Shopify theme with a label customiser wired through it, so a buyer designs their packaging, sees it priced, and orders it without leaving the shop.

Designing a product inside the shop

The heart of the store is the customiser. We integrated Zakeke into a custom Shopify theme so a buyer opens a product, adds their own artwork and label, and carries that design all the way through. The customised item lands in the cart with its personalisation attached and its price adjusted, the cart and order pages show what was customised, and a customer can reopen a past design to edit it. Getting a third-party customiser to behave like a native part of the shop, through cart and checkout, is most of the work.

Freedom to brand, without breaking the label

A skincare label is half branding and half legal requirement, so we configured the customiser to hand over one and lock the other. Each product has its own predefined label templates, sized and shaped to the actual containers, and every one is rendered and animated in 3D so a buyer sees their design on the real bottle or jar. Inside those templates, customers control the branding: logos, product names, fonts, colours, shapes and backgrounds. The parts that have to be right stay fixed. Ingredients, directions, warnings and certification marks are built into the template and cannot be edited, so a customised label is still a compliant one.

Try before you commit

Ordering branded stock is a commitment, so Iris lets buyers order a sample first. We built a dedicated sample product template, separate from the standard product page, so the sample journey reads differently from the full order and a customer can feel the product before they brand a batch of it.

Priced for buying in bulk

Iris sells to businesses stocking shelves, not shoppers buying one jar, and the store is built for it. Products carry minimum order quantities that match how Iris manufactures, and bulk discounting rewards larger orders, so the price a trade buyer sees reflects the quantity they are buying.

A storefront built for a manufacturer, not a catalogue

We started from Shopify's best-practice Dawn theme and rebuilt: Iris's typography, styles and a mega menu that lays the range out by care type. A custom product page organised into tabs so specifications, ingredients and guidance sit in order rather than in one long scroll. To show what the website can do, we produced product mockups under invented sample brands, so a prospect sees a finished, personalised range rather than a blank bottle. And because the customiser is the thing a new buyer has to learn, we built a how-to guide that walks through it step by step with rendered images from the tool itself.

Left in the team's hands

Iris runs the store themselves. The sections we built are configured from Shopify's editor, the 3D hero and its wording are editable in place, and the help and advice content sits in editable blocks. We built the machinery; the day-to-day is theirs.
