Based in the UK, Printondemand-worldwide (POD) are one of the leading digital book printers with a global reach and a strong environmental policy, offering publishers and authors a wide range of on-demand printing services. We have worked with them over the past 7 years, developing their offline and online marketing strategy, including bespoke web development to offer a variety of services.
We handled, authored and designed their core websites alongside a series of satellite websites each targeted to specific keyword searches and target users

These additional websites funnel users through to a quoting and ordering portal which handles customer enquiries automatically and is fully integrated into POD's production workflow, accounting system and CRM.
This ordering system has greatly amplified the capacity of the customer services department, and means that nearly 8,000 individually personalised quotes are generated each month, with no human involvement. Quotes are emailed automatically to end users, who can manage their own jobs and progress through the entire ordering process.
Customers can convert their quotes into orders, pay via credit/debit card, invoicing occurs automatically, and a ledger system allows for easy reconciliation of accounts. In addition, customers using the system can upload and supply digital PDF files for printing which are passed through to the production department for proofing and printing. Customers can follow the status of their jobs through the manufacturing process, while internal production controllers can message and update the status of work as it progresses, resulting in unlimited and instant feedback to customers.
Continual evolution of the system allows POD to remain ahead of the competition in terms of price, service and user experience. Over £150,000 of pre-paid orders have been placed through the system, after only 18 months since initial launch of this web service, with continual growth being demonstrated month by month.
Free Thinking Design were asked to develop a further web service for POD, which provides a unique order procurement solution for mainstream publishers and SME's and extends POD's production capacity by removing the need for any internal involvement until after the books are printed.
The BookVault service centres around a core web interface for customers to create a library of titles and manage their own orders, which integrates into POD's management system to allow them to offer a unique service producing from only 1 copy of any book in any format.
An additional unique selling point of the BookVault service is the API, which allows for cross-website communication between POD, their customer (publisher) and the end recipient.
The BookVault service now handles close to 10,000 unique titles, and controls ordering in the UK, and to print partners in America, Australia and the Far East.

Free Thinking Design's marketing role, and our clients continual growth within their core market along with expansion into additional lucrative markets, requires a closely integrated marketing strategy, continued delivery of successful and innovative services and solutions, and a flexible and responsive approach.
